Author Guidelines

Prospective contributors to Black Theology should register as authors (see the 'On Line Submission' details above). First, click here to download the guidelines which you will find in PDF format. The guidelines pertain to article and book review submissions. All articles are peer-reviewed. We will acknowledge our submission upon receipt and let you know the anticipated timeframe for a decision. If your article is accepted, we will send you further instructions for submitting the final manuscript of your article.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The document is prepared in Microsoft Word format using one and a half line spacing and numbered consecutively and throughout. Footnotes have been created using the footnote function of your word processor and the submission follows the journal's Stylesheet (PDF) throughout.
  2. Articles should not exceed 8,000 words. If longer, please address this in your comments to the Editor.
  3. The document follows the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style. See www.chicagomanualofstyle.org
  4. All permissions have been cleared for any copyrighted material. If in doubt, please see Permissions Guidelines for Equinox Authors
  5. All artwork (photos, line drawings, maps, musical examples, text using unusal fonts, etc) are or will be supplied as Camera-Ready according to the Artwork Preparation Guidelines.
  6. The text (if submitted to a Peer-Reviewed section, such as Articles) has had your (the Author's/s) names removed. The author's name has also been removed from the document's properties which in Microsoft Word is found in the File menu. If you cite any of your own work, "author" and year are used in the bibliography and footnotes, instead of your name, paper title etc.
  7. All URL addresses in the text are activated and ready to click.
  8. If any citations included Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), I have tried to include these. Click here for details about DOIs.
