Bulletin for the Study of Religion

Editor
Craig Martin, St. Thomas Aquinas College

The CSSR Bulletin is one of the oldest North American publications in the study of religion and has one of the largest circulations of any periodical in the discipline. It has been published by the Council of Societies for the Study of Religion for 38 years. It will move to Equinox in 2010 (volume 39) – with a slight change of title to Bulletin for the Study of Religion -- at the same time that the Council itself is disbanded.

Under the continuing editorship of Craig Martin (St. Thomas Aquinas College, NY) the Bulletin will explore a wide array of topics and provide a space for interdisciplinary conversations. It will remain especially relevant to newcomers to the field who are interested in becoming aware of field-wide discussions. Articles address issues related to method and theory, pedagogical practice, the history of the field, all of which have stimulated critical reflection and debate. The Bulletin will also continue to showcase new innovations in the discipline and to feature the work of both seasoned and emerging scholars alike, as well as highlighting work carried out in graduate programs around the world.

The Bulletin continues to publish a combination of invited "Essays on" which survey the field, regular commentaries, reviews and interviews. Future issues will include a Retrospective on Bruce Lincoln's Discourse and the Construction of Society and issues featuring essays on "Religion and War", "Religion and Secularism in Turkey", "Queer Pedagogy in the Discipline of Religion" and a special issue on "Religion in the Public Sphere". The Bulletin is also introducing a regular section, "Key Thinkers in the Study of Religion". To suggest a topic to be featured or a special issue, please contact the editor at the address below. The Bulletin also invites submissions for publication in its peer-review section. To submit an article, please go to the For Authors page and submit online.

From 2010 the Bulletin will be published online as well as in print and in the course of 2010/2011 much of the back issue content will be digitized and added to the site. At the same time, more electronic features are added to ensure that the Bulletin remains ahead of the field and a lively resource for everyone with an interest in the academic study of religion.
